Are you passionate about working in mental health services? Are you good with working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting? There are several roles available across SWSLHD mental health units, at Bankstown and Campbelltown:
* Acute Mental Health Unit (Campbelltown Hospital) – Permanent Part time, 3 days a week
* Banks House (Bankstown Hospital) – Permanent Part time, 2 days a week
We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced clinical psychologists to join the inpatient psychology team under the Clinical Psychology Head of Department. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be linked with two teams: one where you are supported by psychologist colleagues working in other mental health units across SWSLHD; the other team is the multidisciplinary team of the mental health unit, which includes nurses, psychiatric registrars, consultant psychiatrists, social worker, occupational therapists, and diversional therapists. To deliver targeted psychological and psychosocial assessment for diagnosis, interventions and consultation in order to address the needs of consumers who are living with complex mental health problems and disorders. Typical presentations involve management of acute suicide, self-harm, psychosis, drug and alcohol issues, severe anxiety and depression, and challenging behaviours. You will have the opportunity to provide 1:1 psychological intervention, run group programs, assist in diagnostic clarification, and behavioural management support.
The successful applicant will also participate in the evaluation of clinical outcomes of services and assists in the development and provision of education and training programs. Additionally, the successful applicant supervises Psychologists and other disciplines working within the LHD, according to organisational needs and if appropriate to the psychologists' stage of professional development.Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Master's degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Master's degree requirements have been met). Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required. Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
Are You the Right Fit?
We are seeking a clinician with a Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and endorsement in the Clinical Psychology area of practice, who brings strong clinical knowledge and demonstrated experience delivering evidence‑based psychological interventions in both individual and group therapy settings, ideally within an inpatient environment. You will have experience working with consumers with severe mental illness, thrive in dynamic and high‑pressure settings, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in the face of change. Success in this role also requires the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team led by a medical consultant.

2. Full Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration.
3. Describe your experience in conducting clinical, psychometric, and cognitive assessments within a mental health setting. In your response, include an example of your assessment process, the formulation, and use in treatment evaluation.
4. Provide an example of a time you delivered evidence-based psychological interventions to a consumer with acute or complex mental health needs. Outline how you exercised independent clinical judgement, collaborated with the multidisciplinary team, and adapted your therapeutic approach to maximise consumer outcomes.
