Van der Meer Consulting is a multi-disciplinary Structural, Civil, Hydraulic and Fire engineering consultancy with offices in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Our expanding company is currently seeking a suitably qualified Senior Structural Engineer to join our Sydney office.
The Role:
As a Senior Engineer you will contribute to the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions for complex building projects including multiple buildings, complex geometry and high-rise developments. You will guide projects from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with design codes, quality standards, and client requirements.
Your Responsibilities:
* Execution of structural designs including modelling, analysis, manual calculations, preparation of detailed drawings, reports, and presentations.
* Ensure all structural designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and in alignment with schedules and budget
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and BIM technicians.
* Participate in project meetings, offering technical insights and resolving structural engineering challenges.
* Conduct site inspections, ensuring adherence to design and safety standards.
* Coordinate with clients, contractors, architectural and other consultants to secure approvals and maintain compliance.
Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will have the following:
* Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (post graduate degree is preferred)
* Minimum 7 years of experience in structural engineering and minimum 2 years' experience in Australia, gained within a consultancy environment preferred.
* Demonstrated experience in the design of projects in the residential, commercial, retail and industrial sectors.
* Proven expertise in steel and concrete design
Skills and Personal Attributes:
* Sound knowledge and application of Australian Standard design codes, relevant design techniques and construction procedures and techniques.
* Strong analytical and technical skills with experience in designing complex projects
* Proficiency in structural design software (e.g. ETABS, RAM Concept, SPACEGASS, STAND, PLAXIS)
* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
* Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
* Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate and work with draftsmen, engineers, architects and design managers.
* Ability to undertake some Business Development activities such as increasing client base and retaining current clients.
* Have direct dealing with clients, government bodies and contractors/ builders.
* Proven track record of working to tight deadlines and within budget.
* Critically review design drawings and documentation.
* Be enthusiastic and committed to facilitating client needs.
* Must demonstrate initiative and be a team player.
