Description How will your AI skills help us? If you’re a hands-on AI Engineer who loves building, shipping, and scaling real AI products — this is your moment. You’ll work in delivery squads designing, building, and operationalising production-grade AI and GenAI solutions that directly enhance Westpac’s products and services. It’s an exciting time for AI at Westpac, and you’ll be part of our rapidly growing DDAI (Data, Digital & Artificial Intelligence) team — where ideas move fast and models go live. This role is for engineers who want to build, deploy, and own AI in production, working side-by-side with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers. To hit the ground running, you will have real-time experience in the AI Engineering space and can demonstrate solid hands-on AI experience beyond experimentation and POCs. Your responsibilities include: Designing, building, and deploying machine learning models and GenAI applications that solve genuine business problems. Working hands-on with large-scale data, from preprocessing through to insights and features. Building robust data pipelines and APIs (batch, real-time and streaming). Implementing GenAI solutions using modern frameworks, prompting techniques, RAG patterns, fine-tuning, and evaluation. Deploying models into production and monitoring performance in the real world. Collaborating across squads to embed AI into products and services. Keeping pace with fast-moving advances in GenAI, ML and big data — and applying them where they matter. Writing clear documentation to support reproducibility, learning and scale. Troubleshooting model, data, and deployment issues end-to-end. Do you enjoy making a real difference? You’ll help shape the future of a business that’s been around for over 200 years — and is building for the next 200. At Westpac, our purpose is to create better futures together. We back your growth through career development, internal mobility, and flexible working. You’ll be surrounded by smart, supportive people who genuinely want you to succeed. Proven, hands-on experience building and deploying ML models into production. Strong Python skills and deep experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn. Practical experience designing GenAI applications (prompting, agents, RAG, fine-tuning) using frameworks such as LlamaIndex, LangChain, AutoGen, DSPy. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and containerisation ( Docker, Kubernetes ) Strong software engineering fundamentals — Git, CI/CD, clean code. Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop or similar), experimentation and A/B testing. A problem-solving mindset and a passion for building AI that gets used. Why join us?
