THE OPPORTUNITY
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CNC Machinist to join our Operations team based in Hindmarsh, Adelaide.
Reporting to the Operations Manager the CNC Machinist is responsible for
Key responsibilities will include:
* Program CNC machinery in CAD/CAM, design manufacture jigs and fixtures, operate manual machinery, CNC machines, and fabrication equipment as required to produce prototypes and production parts.
* Provide design engineers with design for manufacture (DFM) feedback.
* Recommend part modifications with machinability in mind and provide feasibility and cost estimates for production parts.
* Manage the CNC maintenance and day to day upkeep of the workshop.
* Research & Development and prototyping of rifles, scopes, and driving/hunting lights
* Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and work instructions
* Take products from prototype phase to production phase by decreasing cycle times, simplifying, and standardising parts, improving drawings and design specifications and optimising production.
* Inspect finished products for accuracy and adherence to specifications
* Collaborate with team members to improve machining processes and productivity
* Trouble shoot and resolve any issues which may arise during the machining process.
ABOUT YOU
* Cert III in Mechanical Engineering (toolmaking/fitting/turning) or other relevant mechanical trades desirable.
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or related engineering field– highly desirable.
* At least 3-5 years' experience in a production engineering manufacturing environment including knowledge of material properties and manufacturing processes across Injection moulding, die casting, press metal components, CNC components, powder coating and metalizing
* Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with solid knowledge of machining materials including metals and plastics
* Proficient in operating and programming CNC machines, including multi-axis CNC programming and operation including knowledge of G-code and M-code
* Strong understanding of machining principles, techniques, and tooling
* Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as callipers, micrometers and gauges
* Proficient in operating and programming
* Strong mathematical and analytical abilities
* Firearms manufacturers license (preferred/desirable)
* Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical and hands on approach and high attention to detail
* Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team as well as autonomously
