Development Engineer
Your new company
You will be joining a progressive, modern, and high‑performing council responsible for managing one of Australia's unique coastal regions. The council is known for its strong commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, high-quality service delivery, and providing positive outcomes for the community. With values built on trust, respect, teamwork, and integrity, this council offers a supportive environment where your work directly contributes to shaping the future of the local area.
Your new role
As a Development Engineer, you will assess a wide range of development applications, ensuring engineering design and construction meet council standards and align with best practice. Your work will involve reviewing engineering matters such as drainage, access, roads, overland flow, and geotechnical considerations, as well as assessing works affecting public infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with planners, asset managers, contractors, and developers, providing clear technical advice and helping to guide sustainable development outcomes. You'll also contribute to policy reviews, deliver written recommendations, and support continuous improvement across development engineering processes.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you'll have a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and a Class C driving licence. You will bring strong technical judgement, the ability to interpret complex engineering plans, and confidence in identifying and managing development‑related engineering risks. You'll excel in communicating technical matters in a clear, practical way and be comfortable working with multiple stakeholders. The role also requires strong time management skills, particularly when balancing a high volume of applications with varying levels of complexity.
What you'll get in return
You will join a council that values professional growth, collaboration, and service excellence. You'll work alongside experienced engineering, planning, and environmental teams, contributing to projects that directly influence the community and natural environment. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact, enhance local sustainability outcomes, and be part of a supportive, values‑driven workplace that recognises your contribution.
