About the team
The Multimedia Group within Design Experience is on a mission to make multimedia storytelling quick, simple, and fun for everyone. This role is part of the Video subgroup, where you'll work closely with engineers and designers to build powerful tools for video editing, compositing, and export across platforms.
Day to day you will be:
* Designing and implementing solutions for smooth video playback using rendered frames on web
* Enhancing Android Mobile Web rendering pipelines with a focus on memory efficiency, GPU optimisation, and frame timing
* Developing compositor integration approaches to improve playback precision and performance
* Partnering with browser and backend teams to align on formats, timing, and performance considerations
* Extending solutions across platforms, including potential applications for iOS and beyond
* Creating scalable, reusable mobile architectures that align with broader product strategies
* Diagnosing performance bottlenecks and driving innovative, effective fixes
* Contributing to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
You will have:
* Strong knowledge and experience with TypeScript in Android mobile web development
* A problem-solving mindset that prioritises user impact over attachment to specific languages or platforms
* The ability to thrive in ambiguity and adapt quickly to fast-evolving projects
* Deep mobile development experience using web technologies, with a cross-platform perspective
* An understanding of how GPU, CPU, and browser rendering systems interact
* Exposure to browser APIs, WebViews, or hybrid rendering pipelines
* (Bonus) Experience working with video, games, multimedia apps, or other high-performance visual applications where timing, memory, and graphics are critical
* The ability to maintain and extend existing features with a focus on performance, maintainability, and user impact
* A passion for solving complex technical challenges and collaborating across disciplines
