Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en). We are currently looking for a GIS/BIM Specialist to join our team for a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Cooma, NSW.
Location: Cooma, NSW
Estimated Duration: 24 months. In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.
Summary: The GIS-BIM Specialist will initially focus on the development and management of a project-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) and digital engineering platform for a major infrastructure program, establishing a single source of truth for spatial and design data across disciplines and design packages. The role will then progressively transition into BIM responsibilities, integrating GIS data with BIM environments and supporting broader digital engineering workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
* Coordinating datasets with all design teams and ensuring smooth integration.
* Defining the project GIS data schema within the Common Data Environment.
* Automating data conversion from 12D, GIS, CAD, and BIM into a unified GIS platform.
* Maintaining the digital engineering platform for spatial data across Exploratory and Main Works.
* Managing user access for project and Client teams.
* Developing and operating a WebGIS viewer for site-wide use.
* Creating and updating spatial boundaries, including project limits, temporary/permanent areas, EIS, clearing, rehabilitation, and landscaping.
* Updating GIS data for up to 64 design packages at each stage (Preliminary, Detailed, IFC).
* Handling mapping requests for Exploratory and Main Works.
* Integrating real-time monitoring data into the GIS platform.
* Maintaining system tools, including sketching, mobile data capture, and basic compliance tracking.
Key Deliverables
* GIS section of the BEP, aligned with Employer's Requirements.
* GIS Design Report covering methodology and WebGIS architecture.
Future Phase (BIM Transition): the role will shift toward BIM coordination, aligning GIS data with BIM models and supporting broader digital engineering workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
* A minimum of 3 years of experience as a GIS/BIM Specialist in tunnels/underground/heavy civil construction projects.
* Degree in GIS, Geology, Geomatics, Geography or similar.
* Experience with GIS and BIM Methodology.
Working Hours
14/7 rotational 12-hour shifts – Day/Night/ Monday to Friday – 10 hours shift to be determined.
