Empirical Solutions is seeking a dedicated and detail-driven Systems Engineer to contribute to the technical delivery, certification, and integration of Defence communications and electronics systems. Working as part of a tight-knit engineering team, you’ll exercise sound judgment and apply systems engineering rigour to support project acquisitions from conception through to certification.
Based in Canberra, this role offers engagement through to end CY 2026, supporting mission-critical Defence initiatives in a collaborative and delivery-focused environment.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome professionals with:
* Technical Proficiency Level Four status or eligibility (minimum three-year accredited engineering degree with three years’ post-graduate engineering experience)
* Engineering qualifications in Electrical, Electronics, Communications, or RF (Systems, Mechatronics, and Mechanical also considered)
* Recent Defence systems engineering experience within the One Defence Capability System
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* A collaborative mindset and proactive attitude toward distributed team engagement
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Deliver engineering support across requirements management, V&V activities, integration, and design management
* Contribute to the generation and review of engineering artefacts including:
* Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP)
* Materiel Certification Plans (MCP)
* Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM)
* Final Inspection & Test (FI&T) Plans and Reports
* Support planning, scoping, and budgeting of engineering activities
* Engage in contract support and review of supplier deliverables
* Provide professional advice and mentoring to peers and graduate engineers
* Participate in stakeholder engagement, Mandated System Reviews, and Capability Acceptance forums
* Foster a knowledge-sharing culture across project teams and leadership groups
Desirable Attributes
You’ll Be Highly Regarded If You
* Hold Chartered Professional Engineer status (CPEng) and are registered on the National Engineering Register (NER)
* Have demonstrated success in cross-functional engineering planning, delivery, and forecasting
* Bring recent experience conducting key trials and V&V activities in support of certification artefacts
* Are well-versed in Defence and/or CASG practices, including One Defence planning principles and program gate reviews
* Have worked on acquisition projects within the Defence Joint or Land Domains, particularly Army-related initiatives
