**The Role**
We are currently seeking an exceptional leader for the role of **Local Sector Manager - Urban Communities**, based in our **Newcastle office**, to lead a growing business unit. Reporting to the State Manager, we are seeking an inspirational Manager to play a vital strategic leadership role whilst supporting the significant growth strategies we have planned across the business.
The successful applicant will work closely with our Engineering, Project Management, Surveying, Planning, and Advisory teams across the full project life cycle. Our teams are currently involved in the provision of a wide range of services across a diverse suite of large / major projects, including:
- Town centre main street upgrades
- Cycleway strategies
- Industrial renewal projects
- Master plan communities
- Intersection road upgrades
- Major Rail projects
- Major Renewable Energy projects
**Key Responsibilities**
- Providing operational, technical and performance excellence, with the effect of growing the Urban Communities division, through optimal people, commercial, business development, client relationship management and project performance.
- Effective planning and management of the performance of the local team in line with the Market Sector and State plans and in support of SMEC's vision and values
- Undertaking client relationship management and business development activities in line with the Market Sector and State plans
- Provide project governance and project management in the local office to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness, and quality
- With support from the State Sector Manager, provide leadership and development opportunities to the employees located in the local office to ensure cohesion, optimal performance, resourcing, retention, and professional development
- Provide support to the State Sector Manager and manage activity to transition regional based business model to a national service model
**About You**
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant industry experience, with a background in Engineering, Survey, Planning or Urban Development
- Proven leadership ability leading a multidisciplinary studio
- Registrations and memberships with relevant professional bodies
- A strong grasp of project management and project governance
- Effective collaboration skills with staff, contributors and clients to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
- Excellent business development capabilities
