Bothar Boring and Tunneling is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer / Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates and engineering plans for boring and tunneling projects, ensuring that project scopes, budgets, and timelines are effectively managed. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical engineering expertise with advanced estimation skills, ensuring our projects meet stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
* Analyze project requirements, perform quantity take-offs, and develop detailed cost breakdowns.
* Use industry-standard estimation software and tools to produce accurate bids.
Engineering and Design
* Collaborate with project managers, architects, and design engineers to review project plans, geotechnical reports, and other relevant documents.
* Develop and refine engineering designs to ensure constructability and compliance with regulatory standards.
* Incorporate input from field operations into design and estimation processes to improve project outcomes.
Project Coordination and Management
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects meet deadlines and stay within budget.
* Monitor project progress, tracking costs and making adjustments as needed.
* Participate in project meetings, provide technical support, and contribute to risk management and quality assurance efforts.
Client and Vendor Relations
* Interface with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to negotiate contracts and gather pricing data.
* Provide technical presentations and clarify estimation details to stakeholders.
Compliance and Documentation
* Ensure all engineering work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
* Maintain detailed records and documentation of estimates, project modifications, and communications for future reference and audits.

Qualifications and Experience
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil engineering with a focus on cost estimation, preferably in the tunneling or underground construction industry.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency with engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and estimation tools, and solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
* Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with Australian Standards (AS / NZS), workplace health and safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Travel Requirements
This position may require interstate travel to remote project sites.
