Applications are open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
First Nations people living with disability are strongly encouraged to apply.You will provide independent, specialist support to the Independent Advisory Council (IAC), helping develop and shape advice that brings the views of people with disability, carers, and sector experts to the NDIA Board.
You will primarily support the First Nations Reference Group, while also collaborating across other reference groups as required.Contract: ASAP start to 30 June ****, with an extension option (and labour hire tenure up to 2 years).
Key responsibilities includeDraft formal advice, discussion papers, reports, and briefs for endorsement and escalation.Write in plain English, aligned to accessibility expectations and government standards.Research and analyze issues impacting First Nations people with disability and the NDIS operating environment.Facilitate meetings, steering groups, and out-of-session discussions, including reporting key outcomes and actions.Build member capability through one-on-one support, mentoring approaches, and practical capacity-building sessions.Develop and maintain strong relationships across IAC members, reference groups, Secretariat, and relevant NDIA stakeholders.To be successful in this role, you will needYou are a First Nations person with strong community knowledge and cultural capability (identified role).
Strong understanding of the NDIS, particularly the experience and barriers for First Nations people with disability.Demonstrated experience producing high-quality written advice for government, including simplifying complex topics into clear, usable papers.Confidence facilitating discussions, working with diverse groups, and influencing outcomes in a complex environment.Citizenship and screening requirementsTo be engaged, you must be an Australian citizen and be able to complete NDIA pre-engagement checks.
Depending on duties, this may include an NDIS Worker Screening Check and relevant state/territory working with children and vulnerable people checks.Interested?
