**The Role**
The Research Information Finance Analyst, with limited direction from the Research Data Technology Specialist, is accountable for leading the selection, procurement and ongoing collection analysis of science and technology resources to support DSTG research. This encompasses representing DSTG on consortia, maintaining productive vendor relationships and advising on the suitability of publisher offerings for research needs. Informed by a clear understanding of DSTG research strategy, direction and programs, the Research Information Finance Analyst will ensure that Science and Technology resources are made available to meet researcher requirements. Such resources include online databases and electronic journals, articles and e-books.
The Research Information Finance Analyst will work collaboratively across the Digital Science and Scientific Computing Branches of the Operations Enablement Division, with solution vendors and Defence Finance Group to ensure DSTG researchers are provided with key specialist resources under optimal commercial terms. They will develop close working relationships across Research Data and Information to gain a deep understanding of the research areas at DSTG and employ analytic skills and professional judgement to tailor solutions to this environment.
**Duties**:
- Leads complex vendor engagement activities including researching, trialing, and recommending new resources.
- Applies knowledge, principles, and expertise to the selection, procurement, contracting and de-selection of resources in accordance with DSTG research needs.
- Works collaboratively across a variety of stakeholders, including vendors, to define and solve resources problems including:
- Assessment and management of licences applied to eresources;
- Determination of subscription options, publisher platforms and vendors offering best value for DSTG;
- Upkeep of financial/budgetary information for compliance and forecasting purposes.
- Develops and maintains specialist knowledge of trends and issues in scholarly publishing and uses this to drive innovation in local practice.
- Develops and maintains specialist knowledge of Defence procurement and contract processes
- Represent DSTG on relevant science and technology resources consortia

Operations Enablement is seeking an experienced professional with demonstrated experience in relevant areas of complex vendor engagement activities including researching, trialing, and recommending new resources along with procurement and subscription management skills. Experienced in handling competing priorities, working with limited direction and writing clearly and concisely for different audiences, you'll enjoy the challenge of working in this space.
Skill and capability requirements of the role (where provided):
- Ability to work in a research environment and develop knowledge and experience of the research lifecycle and Science and Technology scholarly communication; trends and issues in scholarly publishing, technologies and methods; contemporary approaches to integration of solutions for optimal user experience; and contemporary approaches to metadata, information description, tagging and discoverability
