About the role

The Indigenous Research Manager is responsible for supporting Indigenous research (research undertaken by Indigenous researchers, research undertaken with Indigenous communities, and research on Indigenous topics) across UTS. The Manager will work in close collaboration with UTS' Indigenous researchers, UTS researchers working on Indigenous topics and the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The role ensures that researchers are well positioned and have the capabilities to undertake the research, and that the research is both informed by and beneficial to Indigenous communities, fostering a collaborative and respectful environment for Indigenous research at UTS. The role will also support a broader understanding by UTS researchers of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP), Indigenous research ethics, Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles and respectful approaches to Indigenous Knowledge systems in research.

About you

As the Indigenous Research Manager, your responsibilities will include:

* Engaging with all UTS Indigenous researchers to understand and assess their research track record, grow research capabilities, enhance engagement with opportunities that uplift their research and research impact and create effective research ecologies at UTS to support their work;
* Undertaking a range of activities to ensure there is a comprehensive understanding of Indigenous-led research, and Indigenous research practices and appropriate knowledge systems in research across the university. You will apply this knowledge and understanding to identify relevant research opportunities and engage other professional capability across Research Office teams and provide practical assistance for Indigenous researchers;
* Develop and further build current resources for Indigenous-led research at UTS working with researchers, research groups and professional colleagues, applying Indigenous data sovereignty principles and an evidence-informed approach. This includes assisting in the development of protocols, guidelines and toolkits for Indigenous research and research support and the design and development of training opportunities for all UTS staff undertaking Indigenous research;
* Working with the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Learning and Education, identify opportunities and develop plans for enhanced institutional support for Indigenous Research including facilitating an UTS Indigenous researchers' network;
* Provide professional leadership and practical support for Indigenous research funding including the oversight and coordination of Indigenous-specific funding rounds and support for proposal development and review;

Selection Criteria

* Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
* Understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols and engage with all staff in a manner that is respectful, collegiate and thoughtful. This will also include ability to recognise priorities based on Indigenous values and processes to ensure an atmosphere of cultural safety in the professional context.
* An understanding of Indigenous research in a university / research context, including ethical practices, culturally sensitive approaches, and the importance of collaboration with Indigenous communities.
* Completion of a relevant postgraduate tertiary qualification with relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
* Experience in research management and coordination is desired.
* Demonstrated ability to proactively influence, engage, negotiate, establish, and maintain effective connections, collaborations, and partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including from community and not-for-profit sectors.

* Is accepted as such by the community in which you live and or have lived.

Salary and Benefits

Base Salary Range: $140,965 to $147,678 pa (HEW 9).

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
