Tweed Heads | Full-time preferred | Flexible, family-friendly
Oculus Accounting is looking for a senior accountant who's ready to step into a role with purpose, variety and room to grow. We use technology to keep things efficient, flexible, and surprisingly painless. We're a progressive accounting firm that puts people first – clients and team alike. While full-time is ideal, we're a genuinely flexible, parent-friendly workplace and are happy to discuss an arrangement that works for the right person.
We're a small, predominantly female office with an approachable director and a real respect for work–life balance (no heroic overtime culture at Oculus). If you have experience within an Australian public practice firm including Xero, preparation of BAS, financial reports and tax returns for Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, & Individuals, we'd love to hear from you.
Your new role
As Senior Accountant, you'll have your own list of varied clients and take charge of the full financial ecosystem - payroll, compliance, reporting, planning—and work directly with the Director to provide insights that genuinely influence business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparation of accurate financial statements and reports.
* Preparation of individual, partnership, trust and company tax returns.
* Preparation of business activity statements for various business structures.
* Analysis of financial information to identify trends, provide insights and strategic recommendations to support financial planning and forecasting.
* Current knowledge of tax and accounting legislation and compliance obligations, requiring ongoing maintenance.
* Actively managing a client list's compliance obligations, expectations and client relationship.
* Attending and supporting client meetings and appointments
* Research on tax related matters.
* Working directly with Director and associates
* Working on complex entities involving staff at all levels and regulatory bodies
What You Bring
You're organised, dependable, and confident. You take pride in doing things properly and can work independently once you understand what's expected.
Australian work rights are required for this position.
* At least 4 years' experience in a senior accounting role
* Strong technical accounting capability paired with real problem-solving instinct
* Proven skill in payroll, tax, reporting, and budgeting
* Certified Xero User status
* Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
* A proactive, collaborative mindset and a hands-on approach
* The willingness and ability to think creatively when the situation calls for it
What We Offer:
* A permanent role aligned to our office hours (Mon-Thurs 8:30am-5pm, Fri 8:30am-1:30pm). Flexibility for school pick-ups and family commitments is genuinely considered.
* Possibility for a hybrid work-from-home situation
* A stable position in a well-run, low-drama accounting practice
* Absolutely no timesheets
* A genuine open-door Director relationship
* Free onsite parking
* Additional leave after qualifying periods
* Take your birthday off every year, on us
* A calm office culture with a small team and a stocked workplace bookcase
* A supportive, friendly team and a weekly morning tea that's dangerously well-catered
This is a long-term employment opportunity. If you're ready to bring your expertise to a team that values initiative, balance, and good humour, we'd love to hear from you.
