Maintenance Manager


Vysarn Limited is a vertically integrated whole of life water and environmental services provider. The Vysarn group of companies and services has now grown to seven operating entities including Pentium Hydro and Pentium Test Pumping.

Pentium Hydro are a dedicated hydrogeological drilling and dewatering business with long-term contract with Tier 1 mining companies.

Pentium Test Pumping is dedicated to the Australian groundwater industry and strives to provide robust, valid, and statistically meaningful groundwater data by providing clients with tailor-made test pumping solutions.

About the role

The Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance of all Pentium drilling assets and associated equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

This role coordinates maintenance activities both in the field and locally, driving continuous improvement in safety and operational performance. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the team, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Occupational Health & Safety

* Take reasonable care for personal and team health and safety.
* Present for work in a fit and proper condition.
* Report hazards and coordinate safety training and induction.
* Use machinery and equipment only if competent and qualified; conduct pre-starts as required.
* Report accidents and near misses.
* Maintain a safe system of work and complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), as required.

Operational Leadership

* Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance for all drill rigs and related assets.
* Lead the maintenance team, planning workloads for optimal resource use.
* Ensure compliance with procedures, manufacturer instructions, and external standards.
* Maintain and operate the CMMS (e.g., MEX), ensuring accurate records and generating required reports.
* Respond urgently to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing cost-effective repairs.
* Supervise in-field employees, support departments, and contractors.
* Conduct regular inspections, audits, and condition-based monitoring of drill rigs and equipment.
* Monitor maintenance work orders to ensure timely completion and closure.
* Oversee inventory management of critical spares and coordinate logistics for equipment and materials.
* Support commissioning of drill rigs and assets in-field as required.
* Complete and review breakdown reports and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

Team Development

* Coach, mentor, and develop team members to deliver on plans and build a high-performing team.
* Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

* Build and maintain positive client relationships via email, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
* Provide technical product support and advice to internal and external clients, assisting with troubleshooting and optimizing drill rig performance.
* Collaborate closely with Supervisors, Purchasing Officers, Maintenance Planners, Drilling Operations Supervisors, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and optimize resource allocation.
* Report issues relating to scope delivery to the relevant Area Manager.
* Report regularly on maintenance activities, issues, and improvements to the Head of Assets and relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and documentation.

About you, your skills and experience

* Mechanical background with experience in drill rig maintenance.
* Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
* Proven track record in supervision and people management.
* Strategic decision-making ability.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Microsoft Project, and CMMS systems (e.g., MEX).
* Understanding of Drill Rigs (Foremost, Schramm preferred), compressors, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
* Highly organized, able to work under pressure, and provide flexible support.

Desirable

* 5+ years' experience in drill rig maintenance or associated industry.
* Accredited certification in supervision/frontline management.
* Relevant trade qualifications and licenses (Mechanical Trade Qualified – Mobile Plant).
* Valid manual Australian driver's license (HR/MC/HC/C Class minimum).
* High Risk Forklift Licence (LF).
* Current First Aid Certificate.

Work Ready Requirements:

* Ability to pass a pre-employment medical assessment and ongoing assessments to meet the requirements of the role.
* Able and willing to work up to 12-hour shifts, including overtime and weekend, as required.
* Exposure to dust and hot working environments (managed according to safety protocols).
* Valid manual Australian driver's license (HR/MC/HC/C Class minimum).
* Ability to obtain a satisfactory National Police Clearance.
* Drug and alcohol testing, as required.
