About the Role
A Federal government organisation is seeking an experienced Security Applications and Systems Engineer to join its Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Operations team.
This role is critical to maintaining the safety and security of a highly sensitive environment by supporting the ICT applications, systems and infrastructure that underpin physical security capabilities. You will work on mission‑critical systems operating 24x7, ensuring high availability, resilience and strong security controls.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited supervision, you will:
* Design, deploy, maintain and support mission‑critical security applications and infrastructure, including PSIM, EACS, CCTV / Video Management Systems and intercom platforms
* Provide proactive and reactive support for 24x7 operational systems, including operating systems, middleware, applications and databases
* Plan and implement upgrades, patching, firmware updates and configuration changes to minimise service disruption
* Support multi‑tier application architectures and system integrations using APIs, event‑driven and vendor‑specific interfaces
* Maintain hardware‑to‑software connectivity for security field devices and edge systems
* Administer application databases, including backup, recovery, replication and disaster recovery
* Monitor systems and applications, analyse logs and performance metrics, and resolve incidents
* Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions
* Apply secure configuration, hardening and patching practices to meet security, audit and compliance requirements
* Maintain clear technical documentation and provide specialist advice to support system design and operational risk management
You will be required to participate in a 7‑day on‑call roster approximately every four to six weeks.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
* Qualifications in Information Technology, a related discipline, and/or 5 years of equivalent work experience, are highly regarded.
* Critical Systems Engineering Experience Demonstrated in-depth technical experience engineering, maintaining, and supporting mission critical application and infrastructure platforms, including systems requiring high availability, resilience, and near real time operation.
* Application, Database, and Infrastructure Expertise Proven capability in application architecture, database administration, and underlying infrastructure (operating systems, middleware, compute, storage), including backup, recovery, patching, and performance optimisation
* Electronic Security Systems Knowledge Demonstrated experience with, or the ability to rapidly transition into, electronic security systems, such as PSIM, EACS, CCTV / Video Management Systems, and intercom platforms, including their application and infrastructure dependencies.
* Systems Integration and Hardware Connectivity Strong experience designing, implementing, and supporting system integrations, including APIs, event driven or near real time interfaces, and hardware to software connectivity with edge devices and security field equipment.
* Operational Support, Monitoring, and Incident Resolution Demonstrated ability to monitor system health, analyse logs and performance data, triage and resolve incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and maintain detailed technical documentation to support ongoing operational continuity
