We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Hides & Skins Assistant Manager to join our team located in Warrnambool, Victoria.
This role is ideal for someone with solid hands-on experience in the wool and cattle industries looking to step into a leadership role within the processing, grading and export of hides and skins. As the Hides & Skins Assistant Manager, you will work closely with senior management to oversee daily operations ensuring smooth coordination across procurement, quality control, traceability, compliance and customer relationship management.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist with the daily operations of the hides and skins department, including receival, classification and storage
* Support traceability systems and documentation in compliance with export standards
* Prepare sales invoices, packing lists and invoices as required
* Participate in hide grading and classification training, learning industry standards for quality
* Liaise with logistics and sales teams to assist with order fulfillment and inventory management
* Ensure hygiene, OH&S and environmental standards are maintained in all processing areas
* Maintain records including inventory logs, QA reports and supplier performance data
* Learn about market trends and customer requirements in domestic and international hide and skin markets
* Coordinate with logistics providers, shipping lines, and freight forwarders to arrange transport and shipment bookings
SKILLS & EXPERIENCES:
* Experience in the wool industry (e.g., shearing, classing, handling and trading)
* Understanding of the cattle industry including animal handling, processing, or saleyard operations
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with suppliers, staff and stakeholders
* Physically fit and willing to work in a hands-on, outdoor and processing environment
* Basic computer skills (email, Excel, inventory systems)
* Willingness to learn grading systems and industry compliance requirements
* Strong attention to detail and willingness to take direction and feedback
* A current driver’s license and ability to travel if required
