About the role
Fitzroy Australia Resources is seeking an experienced and visionary General Manager (SSE) to lead operations at Ironbark No. 1, a cornerstone asset in our underground coal portfolio. As the General Manager (SSE) and a key member of Fitzroy's senior leadership team, you will play an instrumental role in setting and delivering the strategic direction of the site.
Key Responsibilities include
Lead the development and execution of operational strategies to meet production, safety, environmental, and financial performance targets.
Fulfil statutory obligations as the Site Senior Executive (SSE) in accordance with the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, and other relevant legislation.
Foster a strong safety culture across all levels of the operation, ensuring full compliance with WHS Act, Environmental Protection Act, Mining Act, and other applicable regulations.
Oversee the full scope of underground mine operations, including production, maintenance, engineering, technical services, finance and safety, ensuring optimal resource recovery and cost efficiency.
Develop and implement effective mine plans, production schedules, and budget controls, aligned with business and life-of-asset planning.
Manage site budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting, ensuring responsible cost management and value delivery.
Drive operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives, performance benchmarking, and the adoption of innovative technologies and modern mining practices.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary site leadership team through effective coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and performance management.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational discipline to strengthen productivity and reduce variability.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, local communities, unions, contractors, and corporate leadership.
About You
15+ years' experience in the mining industry, with a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership roles within coal operations
Statutory Certificate of Competency – SSE
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline
Strong commitment to safety as a core leadership value
Demonstrated ability to align day-to-day operations with long-term strategic, financial, and compliance objectives
Skilled in building, motivating, and mentoring high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
Excellent written and oral communicator across all levels — from operational crews to executive stakeholders
