Product Development Engineer

Daifuku North America is seeking a skilled engineer to join our R&D team, where you will design innovative material handling solutions for conveyor and sortation systems.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop new products that meet customer needs by conceiving, designing, developing, and engineering conveyor fabricated products.
* Perform complex engineering calculations to ensure robust designs, including horsepower, stress, torque, deflection, torsion, overhung load, sortation rate, cycle rate, air consumption, and amperage draw.
* Ensure safety, reliability, and ease of maintenance in all new products.
* Select cost-effective purchased products that meet project requirements.
* Analyze data to identify trends in usage, cost, performance, and reliability.
* Design and execute test plans to establish operational parameters for concepts and prototypes.
* Utilize modeling and simulation tools to validate or disprove designs.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality control, purchasing, and administration.


Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, or equivalent experience.
* A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the material handling industry, preferably in conveyor systems with carton handling and/or pallet handling.
* Familiarity with Motor Driven Roller (MDR), sortation technologies, installation, project management, electrical, or EPDM administration is highly desirable.
* Strong knowledge of design and development of conveyor-related products, including plastics, metals, alloys, and chemistry.
* Ability to analyze data, create calculation tables, and present visual explanations using Excel and PowerPoint.
* Proficiency in MS Office, 3D SolidWorks, EPDM, and simulation modules.
* Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to meet project plans and deadlines.
* Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
