Immersive Systems Engineering Experience in Australian National Security
Join a prestigious three-month program that leads to a permanent systems engineering position focused on national security innovation.
* Take part in a cohort-based program addressing real-world challenges for government partners in defence, intelligence, and national resilience sectors.
* Contribute to systems engineering efforts in architecture design, mission assurance, digital engineering, and technology integration for priority projects.
* Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and related approaches to design and evaluate systems supporting Australia's defence, intelligence, and whole-of-government security initiatives.
* Collaborate with technical teams, program managers, and operational users to ensure alignment with mission objectives and stakeholder needs.
* Develop systems engineering artifacts such as architecture models, interface definitions, requirements traceability matrices, risk assessments, and decision analysis products.
* Gain hands-on experience with systems engineering tools and frameworks, including SysML, MagicDraw/Cameo, and digital engineering environments.
* Understand how national security priorities drive capability development and technical delivery across Defence and Intelligence agencies.
* Work collaboratively with international teams, broadening understanding of allied engineering approaches and the global ecosystem.
* Receive structured mentorship from senior engineers in Australia and internationally.
* Participate in a two-week immersion at a global headquarters, gaining insight into the organisation's impact and engineering culture.
* Transition into a permanent systems engineering role upon program completion.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Possess a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
* Hold early to mid-career experience, including recent graduates with strong academic foundations or those with several years of relevant professional experience.
* Have working knowledge of systems engineering concepts, including requirements analysis, architecture development, lifecycle planning, and system validation.
* Be familiar with MBSE tools and techniques, such as SysML, Cameo/MagicDraw, or similar platforms.
* Exhibit strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Meet eligibility criteria for an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
* Be willing to travel domestically and internationally, including for the two-week immersion.
* Be able to work a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred qualifications include:
* Possess Honours, Master's, or PhD in a relevant technical discipline, or 5+ years of relevant post-Bachelor's professional experience.
* Have hands-on experience supporting or leading MBSE, digital engineering, or architecture modelling in government, defence, or critical infrastructure domains.
* Be familiar with Australian Defence capability frameworks and acquisition processes.
* Exhibit experience with complex systems architecture, interface definition, requirements traceability, or system-of-systems design.
* Have knowledge of the Australian national security environment and allied collaboration (AUKUS, Five Eyes).
* Hold current NV1 or NV2 clearance, with eligibility for Positive Vetting (PV) clearance if required.
* Demonstrate ability to work across cross-sector teams in complex environments.
