* Drive genetic progress using hands-on involvement with AI and ET programs.
* Manage impressive herd focusing on premium beef production for export markets.
The Story
Drover Ag is partnering exclusively with our client to recruit an experienced Farm Manager for their flagship 3000-acre property in the Victorian High Country. This is an opportunity to join a high-performance operation focused on excellence and growth. The enterprise produces exceptional, fully certified, and traceable premium beef, raised ethically on pasture in a high-rainfall zone, with a focus on superior quality and marbling for export and select markets. The business is also exploring expansion to increase production scale and develop a complementary beef brand.
The Operation & Management Philosophy
The property runs a herd of 950 breeders with a split spring/autumn calving, supported by 300 recipient cows dedicated to embryo production. The core focus is on driving genetic progress through extensive Artificial Insemination (AI) and Embryo Transfer (ET) programs. The operation includes twice-yearly weaning and containment backgrounding of up to 800 weaners on proprietary rations. Cattle are long fed externally to produce premium carcasses.
The enterprise is supported by modern infrastructure, advanced handling facilities, and well-maintained equipment. Management is data-driven, utilising Stockbook and AgriWebb systems. Strong pasture programs are in place, supported by agronomist expertise. You will be joining a dedicated team that includes the absentee owner, two farm hands, one admin/data person, and seasonal/contractor support.
The Role
Reporting directly to the owner, you will be the operational leader for the property. You will oversee all aspects of on-farm management, including:
* Leading and executing breeding programs, including all AI and ET work.
* Weaning, containment backgrounding, and finishing programs.
* Pasture and feed management, including working with the agronomist.
* Staff supervision, team leadership, and mentorship.
* Infrastructure and equipment maintenance.
* Data analysis, performance reporting, budgeting, cost control, and compliance.
* Contributing to strategic planning as the enterprise continues to scale and grow.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate who brings an ownership mentality, strong integrity, and a commercial awareness to the role. You must be ambitious for improvement, resilient, and detail-oriented.
Essential requirements include:
* Proven, hands-on experience in large-scale beef breeding, backgrounding, and finishing operations.
* Experience in Artificial Insemination (AI) and Embryo Transfer (ET) programs.
* Solid knowledge of pasture management and demonstrated proficiency with farm data systems.
* Proven team leadership skills and machinery operation capability.
The Offer
An impressive level of remuneration will be discussed with the right candidates. In addition, a work ute and a lovely 3-bedroom family house are provided on the property. The position is based in the picturesque Victorian High Country, a high-rainfall zone renowned for its natural beauty and proximity to national parks. The property, with river frontage and mountain views, is located approx 1 hour north-east of Melbourne. You will enjoy a peaceful High Country lifestyle, close to town amenities, and just a short drive from larger centres, offering the best of country living with easy access to services.
