Salary Range: Deputy Principal- $153,276 to $164,999 FTE Gross per annum.

Newman Catholic College
Newman Catholic College, co-located on James Cook University site Smithfield, is Cairns Catholic Education's newest college joining a system of 29 other Catholic schools and colleges. Opened in 2022 with approximately 140 Year 7 students, it grows a year level each year until Year 12 is reached in 2027. Its location on and interaction with the University presents endless opportunities to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Newman Catholic College works collaboratively with James Cook University so that learning and teaching is enhanced at all year levels.
About the Role
The Deputy Principal Academic Studies will forge strong positive relationships with students, families and staff across the College, connecting people programs and initiatives. Working closely with the Principal as part of the Senior Leadership team, the Deputy Principal will support Newman Catholic College's commitment to excellence in all aspects of school life and will bring focused attention to the safety and well‑being of students and staff. The Deputy Principal will ensure students receive an enriching Catholic school experience while honouring our compliance obligations.
The Deputy Principal Academic Studies undertakes a senior leadership role in the college's organisational structure and, as such, is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The Deputy Principal Academic Studies requires a deep knowledge of contemporary pedagogy (including State and Federal curriculum directions) and professional learning practices.
With the Principal, this position holds responsibility for learning and teaching and for developing both high expectations of students and staff and a high‑performance culture in the college; this is measured through student engagement and student outcomes.
