Adecco is partnering with a high-profile State Government Agency who are seeking a Counsellor to undertake counselling and support services to individuals and families. The role ensures clients receive compassionate assistance, clear information about processes, and referrals to appropriate services, while upholding legislative, ethical, and organizational standards.

Duties
* Support bereaved next of kin in the immediate aftermath of a death under the jurisdiction.
* Support families who need to undertake identification viewings of their loved one, or who wish to view their loved one prior to the transfer of care to a funeral home, in person.
* Provide support remotely (phone/WebEx) and in person.
* Engage promptly upon referral, including:
* Contact nominated family members the same business day (or next day if referral received after 4 pm).
* Share information, discuss identification/viewing requirements, and offer remote counselling.
* Attend visual identification or viewing appointments.
* Provide follow up phone counselling if required within a two-week engagement period.
* Make referrals to Family Liaison Officers, Counselling Services (e.g., Relationships Australia), or other supports within three business days.
* Liaise with court staff and other service providers as required.
* Provide expert advice on best-practice therapeutic approaches for engaging with bereaved families.
* Maintain accurate case notes, statistical and administrative records for all activities (phone counselling, face-to-face attendance, correspondence).
* Develop and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, templates, and training materials approved by the department.
* Maintains professional boundaries and self-care strategies in high-stress contexts. NOTE: clinical supervision is not provided by the department, and practitioners are expected to maintain this obligation as part of their accreditation.
Key Accountabilities
* Client Support
* Provide professional counselling and emotional support to bereaved families and individuals impacted by coronial matters within one business day from referral
* Deliver crisis intervention and coping strategies in line with trauma-informed practice.
* Explain coronial processes in a clear, empathetic manner.
* Service Coordination
* Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and records in compliance with privacy legislation.
* Facilitate referrals to external health, mental health, and community services.
* Collaborate with coronial staff, legal professionals, and agencies to ensure integrated support.
* Compliance & Professional Development
* Adhere to relevant legislation, codes of ethics, and organisational policies.
* Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development- not provided by the department.
Qualifications & Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or related discipline.
* Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., APS, AASW).
* Experience in grief, trauma, or crisis counselling.
* Knowledge of coronial or legal processes (desirable).
