The FutureFit Internship Program has been developed to provide University students with a placement experience that introduces them to the diversity and potential of a career with the City of Newcastle. As an intern you will apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting while developing your professional skills and corporate knowledge through our unique groupwork and online learning program.
Above all, our internship program is designed to show you that City of Newcastle is a great place to work. Our interns are provided with 140 hours of work placement across a 7-week period. Hosted by a specialist team, interns will spend time developing an understanding of the skills and opportunities within their service unit. They will also spend time as part of a multi-disciplinary group undertaking corporate learning and engaging in problem solving for the City's challenges.
Supported by industry professionals, interns must be available
each Wednesday (9am - 4:30pm)
of the Future Fit Internship period being 16 February – 3 April 2026
and can negotiate the allocation of their remaining hours with their service host. The typical allocation of hours each week are allocated:
* 7 hours - Placement activity with host service
* 7 hours - Groupwork activity with the Learning, Planning and Engagement team each Tuesday (compulsory attendance)
* 6 hours - Online corporate and employability learning completed at home OR within host service area.
