Remuneration:

This investment will power next-generation AI and data-intensive research projects in areas such as health, climate science, bioinformatics, and advanced engineering, while operating entirely on renewable energy and preserving data sovereignty within Australia. As we build and bring MAVERIC into operation, we’re seeking a top-tier Senior Research Computing Engineer to ensure our infrastructure meets the high demands of AI-enabled research across the university. In this role you will: Provide expert onboarding and technical support for researchers using HPC and AI clusters. Manage and maintain Linux-based HPC systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security. Support containerised environments (e.g., Kubernetes) for reproducible research workflows. Support Optimising GPU-accelerated workloads (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), including multi-GPU scaling and distributed training. Develop training materials, documentation, and best-practice guides to build researcher capability. Analyse system usage and performance, implementing optimisations to improve efficiency and user experience. Ensure robust governance of data, access controls, and cybersecurity protocols. We are looking for candidates with: A degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent, and/or significant professional experience. Deep expertise in Linux system administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, automation, and security hardening. Strong programming/scripting skills in Python, Bash or similar. Proven experience supporting researchers in HPC/AI, cloud or large-scale computing environments. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse user groups. Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to documentation, reproducibility, and continuous improvement. Experience in university IT operations or research environments will be highly regarded.
