Job Description
Purpose:
The Health & Safety Specialist will:
* Provide expert advice and practical support on health and safety matters across project and operational sites.
* Ensure legal compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
* Foster a proactive and risk-aware culture within teams and contractors.
* Lead risk workshops, attend safety meetings, and coach internal staff and contractors in safety leadership.
* Support the implementation of the business's Health and Safety Strategy and annual Safety Work Plan.
* Assist in audits, incident investigations, and development of safety documentation.
* Conduct training and contribute to ongoing improvement of safety systems and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support and deliver the company-wide safety assurance program.
* Provide H&S oversight across operational sites and projects under construction.
* Identify opportunities to enhance audit and assurance frameworks.
* Facilitate and review risk assessments, SWMS, safety procedures, and site-specific documentation.
* Monitor and support legal compliance and contractual H&S obligations.
* Develop and implement training, safety initiatives and lessons learned.
* Participate in and support incident investigations (internal and contractor-related).
* Contribute to emergency response planning and ensure effective execution of drills.
* Manage subcontractor pre-qualification and approval processes.
* Undertake regular travel to regional and interstate sites to ensure alignment and build relationships.
* Provide safety data reports, analysis, and documentation as required.
* Oversee return-to-work coordination following health and safety incidents.
* Ensure obligations related to safety compliance, including cyber security and data protection, are met.
The Successful Applicant
Ideal candidate:
Required:
* Tertiary qualification in OHS, Risk, or Engineering
* White Card (Construction Induction)
* Experience in health and safety within the energy, utilities, or construction sectors
* Knowledge of ISO and AS/NZS Standards
* Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
* Experience working with Principal Contractors and subcontractor management
* Understanding of psychosocial hazards and related risk controls
Desirable:
* Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
* Experience in managing H&S across both greenfield construction and operational sites

* Ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
* Strong Microsoft Office and SharePoint skills
* High-level organisation and problem-solving skills
