Your new role – Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer


Are you passionate about workplace safety and compliance? Do you have the skills to create a safe and healthy work environment? We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join our team

The WHS Officer supports Council's work health and safety culture by educating, coaching, supporting, encouraging and providing technical guidance and support to leaders and teams to ensure they understand their responsibilities under work health and safety laws and to enhance their commitment to health and safety in the workplace, reducing risk and injury and ensuring a safe workplace.

We're looking for an individual who can guide and support leaders and teams with practical, people-first WHS advice and champion a culture where safety is put first and a mindset – not just a checkbox. You'll be part of an inclusive and supportive People and Culture team supporting a diverse Council.

Essential:

* Cert IV in WHS
* Experience in performing a similar role, or in taking a lead in WHS in a workplace.
* Solid understanding and experience in taking a proactive approach to improving health and safety practices and the application of WHS legislation, standards and best practice.
* Capacity to build and maintain strong, consultative stakeholder relationships, work collaboratively and enhance rapport.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in contributing to and developing policies, procedural documentation, presentations/training.
* Experience in collecting, collating and analysing WHS performance data to identify trends, emerging risks and contribute to performance reporting.
* Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver within timeframes in an environment of change and conflicting demands.
* Experience in WHS risk assessment and incident investigation.
* Computer literacy and experience in using incident/risk management or compliance software systems

Salary and conditions:

* Full-time position (75 hours per fortnight).
* Central Coast Council's Enterprise Agreement – Professional Level 1 ($ $47.94 per hour).
