About the Role
Due to continued growth, MBS Environmental is looking for an ecologist for our Perth or Busselton office, to assist with a diverse range of work including ecological surveys, environmental impact assessment, approvals and compliance.
The role will suit someone with field survey skills, an understanding of WA flora, vegetation and/or fauna, strong report writing skills, and experience or willingness to develop skills in environmental impact assessment.
The role is suitable for a junior applicant with (2-3 years' experience) up to Principal level, full-time or part-time. The role would be tailored to match the skill level and expertise of the successful applicant.
As part of MBS Environmental, you will work within a highly experienced team of scientists, engineers and chemists. The role offers opportunities for professional development, autonomy, and exposure to a wide variety of project types across Western Australia.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will:
* Have tertiary qualifications - bachelors or higher, ideally in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology or a related field.
* Have an understanding of survey requirements to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations for baseline surveys, ecological monitoring and data submission.
* Experience in conducting ecological fieldwork within Western Australia, including knowledge of WA flora, fauna, vegetation types, habitats and ecological processes.
* Experience in preparing clear and concise technical reports, condensing complex technical data and expertise into accessible content for a broad audience, supported by strong written (English) and verbal communication skills.
* An understanding of WA and Commonwealth environmental legislation and assessment frameworks, with practical experience in environmental impact assessment, approvals applications and environmental compliance would be ideal but not essential.
* Experience in preparation of project proposals, fieldwork plans and safety documentation.
* Proficiency in data recording, GPS/GIS tools, and standard field survey methodologies.
* Be pro-active and self-motivated for learning and problem-solving, with a willingness to learn from and support others.
* Enjoy working as part of a team but also has the ability to work independently to deliver high quality reports.
* Be an Australian citizen or permanent Australian resident with current unrestricted Australian drivers licence. Applicants who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents will not be considered.
