Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker

The New England region is seeking a skilled and dedicated Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker to join our team.

* This is an identified role open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

Job Description

As an Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker, you will be responsible for working sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people. You will work collaboratively with other agencies and engage in complex problem solving to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

You will assist families in formulating goals that align with their needs, addressing safety and well-being concerns, and provide appropriate assistance through home visits. This may involve developing safety plans and completing risk assessments, managing cases and situations including working with high needs and high-risk clients and their families, and being involved in court processes.

As an Identified role, this position requires you to be confident, curious and resilient. The essential requirements include relevant diploma or degree qualification, applicants without a relevant qualification require at least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families.

A valid driver's licence and documented verification of Aboriginality are also required. You must be able to build positive working relationships, supported by excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

1. Relevant diploma or degree qualification
2. Applicants without a relevant qualification require at least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families
3. Valid driver's licence
4. Documented verification of Aboriginality - confirming that you are an Aboriginal person of Aboriginal descent and that you identify as being Aboriginal
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
