Primary objective
Provide a broad range of accounting services to ensure integrity of financial data and compliance with financial policies and
legislations.
Context statement
The Finance and Business Services unit provides strategic financial, budget and accounting advisory services to executive
management and business divisions across three departments (Department of Trade, Business and Asian relations,
Department of Mining and Energy and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries). The team is responsible for budget
development and monitoring, the provision of financial services and system administration, and financial reporting.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist and support the Finance and Business Services team, in reporting of budget and financial information in
accordance with legislative frameworks.
1. Undertake a range of balance sheet reconciliations to support agencies' operations.
2. Assist with maintenance and integrity of the general ledger for three agencies.
3. Undertake ad hoc reports and projects to meet internal and external analysis and reporting.
4. Contribute to the development and review of finance related policies and procedures.
5. Prepare, analyse and upload cash flows to facilitate the reporting of expenditure against budget.
6. Prepare and post end of month accrual journals.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of financial management, budget formulation, cost tracking and reporting, collation
and analysis of financial data.
2. Well-developed written and oral communication skills to operative effectively and with confidential and sensitive
information.
3. High level competency in the use of office automation software, accounting packages, spreadsheets, databases, and
report generation techniques.
4. Sound knowledge of accounting and taxation principles.
5. Ability to establish and maintain good working networks with stakeholders and clients in relation to financial matters.
6. Demonstrated ability to deliver concurrent outcomes within tight and conflicting deadlines and maintain high standards
of attention to detail and accuracy.
7. Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures and as a member of a team.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce or business.
1. Membership or working towards a membership of relevant professional accounting organisation.
2. Knowledge of the Government Accounting System.
