About the organisation

The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (Wurundjeri Corporation) is a Registered Aboriginal Party appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (VIC). The Corporation holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. This extends to environmental land management, cross-cultural education, performing traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, and conducting research and cultural consultations.

About the role

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Deputy CEO) is a newly created position and is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day management and operational performance of the Corporation, ensuring all business functions operate efficiently and align with the strategic priorities set by the Board and CEO. Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, the Deputy CEO provides hands‑on leadership across corporate services; including finance, people & culture and specifically across business operations, and project delivery, ensuring the corporation meets its statutory, legal, contractual and cultural obligations. While the CEO focuses on strategic direction, external relations, and Board engagement, the Deputy CEO drives operational execution, organisational performance, and continuous improvement, and acts as CEO delegate when required.

About you

This Aboriginal‑identified role requires a culturally grounded leader who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is deeply committed to advancing Aboriginal self‑determination. You bring extensive leadership experience, ideally including engagement with Traditional Owners, and a strong record of managing complex operations, leading multidisciplinary teams and driving organisational performance. Combining strategic insight with practical execution, you ensure systems, processes and people operate effectively, supported by strong financial acumen and sound governance. You foster a culturally safe and high‑performing workplace, build trusted relationships with Elders, community and stakeholders, and lead with integrity, humility and professionalism. With proven capability in change leadership, stakeholder engagement and working across government, you are an organised and collaborative senior leader who excels in project management, delegation and developing clear, effective policies—all motivated by a genuine commitment to protecting and promoting Wurundjeri Woi‑wurrung cultural heritage.
