We are looking for a Linux and Unix Systems Administrator to help maintain, enhance and support our core infrastructure while driving great client outcomes for our business unit, Information and Technology Partners (ITP).
ITP is hosted by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and delivers information technology and information management services to 7 government agencies. The Opportunity
As a System Administrator, you will manage and support Linux and Unix platforms and systems through installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, and resolving ICT incidents and requests. You'll work both independently and collaboratively to deliver high‐quality client support, contribute to upgrades, maintenance, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives, while staying across emerging technologies.
You Will Also Be Responsible To
* Provide high‐quality technical support, working independently to prioritise and manage your workload.
* Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and reports that meet ITP standards.
* Collaborate on system upgrades, testing cycles, maintenance activities, and change releases.
* Apply analytical problem‐solving skills to identify effective solutions within planned timeframes.
* Contribute to operational programs, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Participate in an after‐hours on‐call roster when required.
What We Are Looking For (qualifications, Registrations, Experience)
* Experience in system administration tasks, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backup, restoration, and monitoring of Unix and Linux RedHat infrastructure platforms and systems.
* Demonstrated experience in the following:
* Compute: Unix/ Linux server administration, including server builds and patching, sever backup, restoration, and storage management and RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
* Database Platforms: familiarity with Oracle databases and a working knowledge of PostgreSQL.
* Web/ Application Platform: good understanding of web application technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic, or the capability to rapidly acquire knowledge of these.
* Support Tools: practical exposure to toolsets such as RedHat Satellite, Puppet, Nagios, or equivalent system management toolsets.
* Ability to present technical information in plain language, verbally and through writing, to end-users and technical operators.
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
Desirable Skills
* Demonstrated experience or the ability to quickly learn Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Service Management processes.
* A demonstrated aptitude for learning and developing a working knowledge of the Oracle Solaris operating system.
* Experience in the following:
* Cloud technologies, particularly AWS and Azure, as they relate to RedHat Linux platforms.
* Container technologies, including Red Hat OpenShift, Podman, Kubernetes, and Docker.
* Scripting languages such as Shell, Python, Bash, and Perl.
* Jira.
* Possession of relevant certifications, such as Red Hat and Cloud certifications, would be highly regarded.
