Edmund Rice Education Australia Flexible Schools Ltd is seeking an Indigenous Community Engagement Officer to deliver intensive case management and wrap-around support to highly vulnerable Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people.
About the Role
The role involves engaging with young people, families, elders, and community members to nurture the cultural identity of Indigenous students and support them to re-engage in education. The support provided could include engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance engagement, educational achievement and post-school transition pathways.
Key Responsibilities
* To deliver 'outside the school gate' intensive case management and wrap-around support to highly vulnerable Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people
* Engage with young people, families, elders, and community members to nurture the cultural identity of Indigenous students and support them to re-engage in education
Requirements
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australian society
* Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirement for proper negotiation and consultation with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on matters relevant to the delivery of education services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people
* Tertiary qualifications at Certificate level or equivalent qualifications relevant for a Youth Support Worker or such knowledge and experience to successfully carry out the duties of this position
