Child Support Practitioner – Cairns Residential Healing Place (12-month Parental Leave Backfill)

About Warringu
Warringu is an Aboriginal Community Controlled, not-for-profit organisation governed by a community Board of Directors. We provide specialist services supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence and homelessness across Cairns and surrounding regions, including Yarrabah, the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York and the Torres Strait.
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Child Support Practitioner to join our frontline team.
About the Role
This role focuses on delivering trauma-informed, child-centred therapeutic support to children and young people who have experienced or are currently experiencing family and/or sexual violence.
You will work directly with children and their families to reduce the psychological, emotional, and developmental impacts of trauma. Additionally, you will contribute to community education initiatives and collaborate with inter-agency partners to strengthen coordinated responses.

Key Responsibilities
* Deliver individual and group therapeutic interventions.
* Support parents and carers through psychoeducation and guidance.
* Conduct assessments, maintain case notes, and participate in multidisciplinary case coordination.
* Advocate for children's safety and wellbeing and contribute to community awareness initiatives.
About You (Selection Criteria)
You will bring:
* Experience in case management with children and young people using trauma-informed approaches.
* Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the impacts of trauma and family violence.
* Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams with strong communication skills.
* Cultural capability, including experience working with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or CALD communities.
* Understanding of relevant legislation, mandatory reporting, and referral pathways.
Essential Requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community Services, or related field.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in Domestic & Family Violence or Homelessness services.
* Cultural capability and experience with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or CALD communities.
* Current Driver's Licence, Blue Card, and National Police Check.
