The 12-month postgraduate trainee program is a yearlong advanced clinical training programme in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Western Australia. The training programme offers clinical experience in specific disciplines and an opportunity to gain formal scholarly training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate programme. These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and up‑skilling in areas that would be relevant to general practice or a stepping‑stone to further clinical training such as a residency. Exceptional new graduates will be considered. An annual stipend of $40,000 is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate programme which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of two semesters. Course fees are paid by the School.

Residency training programmes

* Anatomic Pathology
* Anaesthesia
* Clinical Pathology
* Emergency and Critical Care
* Equine Medicine

The three‑year full‑time residency programmes allow a successful candidate to target credential requirements for speciality certification. The residencies are supervised by board‑certified academic staff. Concurrent enrolment in a research masters degree is required.

Application process

Applicants must be able to start the programme in early to mid‑January for Semester 1 2026 enrolment. Application for clinical training positions is restricted to veterinarians with a degree that can be registered in Western Australia. Australian and New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status is required.

All enquiries around the programme can be forwarded to Jody Reeve by email.

Applications close 19th October 2024 (Early applications / expressions of interest are encouraged).

A letter of intent, current CV, certified copy of academic transcripts, names of three referees and a certified copy of passport / visa as proof of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency or of New Zealand citizenship should be submitted to.

Candidates are chosen after a competitive selection process.

Murdoch University values workplace diversity, promotes inclusion and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, women and individuals with disabilities.
