Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Trainer & Assessor Full-time | Make a real impact in out-of-home care
This is not a "tick-the-box" training role.
This is a role for someone who understands what happens when young people are distressed, overwhelmed and escalating, and knows that the way staff respond in those moments can change everything.
As the TCI Trainer & Assessor, you will be the person who shapes how crisis is prevented, de‑escalated and managed across residential and community‑based services. You will be the calm behind the scenes, the coach to frontline teams, and the person who makes sure Therapeutic Crisis Intervention isn't just taught, it's truly embedded in everyday practice.
You will work closely with residential teams, case managers and leaders, helping them build confidence, strengthen relationships, reduce incidents and create safer, more therapeutic environments for young people and staff.
What you'll be doing
You will lead the delivery, assessment and ongoing quality of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention across the organisation including:
* Delivering TCI training, refreshers and assessments in line with Cornell University standards
* Coaching, mentoring and modelling strong de‑escalation and intervention skills with teams
* Supporting post‑incident debriefs and reflective practice
* Maintaining training, certification and compliance records
* Working alongside case managers, supervisors and cultural advisors to ensure practice is safe, therapeutic and culturally responsive
Who we're looking for
You're someone who understands the realities of residential care and high‑risk environments and still believes people can do better with the right support. You will bring:
* TCI Trainer certification
* Experience in youth, child protection, residential care or therapeutic services
* A strong understanding of trauma, attachment, escalation and behaviour support
* Confidence coaching and assessing staff in real‑world, high‑pressure environments
* Strong facilitation, communication and relationship‑building skills
* Cultural awareness and commitment to working respectfully with First Nations young people and communities
* Emotional intelligence, resilience and calm leadership when things get tough
Requirements
* Current Working With Children Check (Blue Card or equivalent)
* National Police Check
* Driver's licence
* TCI Trainer accreditation (ongoing)
