As a Senior Product Designer, you will play a key role in shaping user-centred digital products that meet customer needs and deliver real public value. Working as part of a collaborative design and delivery team, you will lead the design process across discovery, framing, and delivery phases — from research and ideation through to wireframes, prototypes, and final interface designs.
In this role, you will also provide guidance and direction to other designers and development teams, ensuring consistent, accessible, and high-quality digital experiences. You will champion best practices in UX/UI design, human-centred design, and accessibility, while collaborating with stakeholders across government to drive innovation and improve services.
In this role you will also take on additional responsibilities of a UI / UX Business Analyst and assist with requirement gathering as needed by the project/s.
Key accountabilities:
* Work closely with product managers, developers, service designers, and subject matter experts to co-design intuitive, customer-focused solutions that align with business and policy objectives.
* Lead the end-to-end design process for digital products and services, including research, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, testing, and high-fidelity UI design.
* Develop viable and sustainable solutions within technical constraints and brand and design system guidelines that align customer needs and business requirements.
* Stay up to date with the best user research practices, including User Interaction (UI), accessibility guidelines, and visual design practices.
* Provide expert, specialist advice to product teams, departments, and stakeholders on best practice innovations and trends in human-centred design (HCD), content, accessibility, usability, and user research practices.
* Provide advice and guidance to local and partner development teams to ensure compliance with the department's design system standards and guidelines.
To be successful in the role you will demonstrate:
* Tertiary qualifications in design, interaction design, information technology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
* A strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to design intuitive and accessible web or mobile interfaces, ideally for complex or service-oriented environments.
* Proficiency in tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and collaborative platforms like Miro or Confluence.
* Solid knowledge of Human-Centred Design (HCD) or Design Thinking methodologies.
* Demonstrated experience in journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and user testing.
* Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and a strong understanding of inclusive design principles.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
* Ability to take on additional responsibilities of a UI / UX Business Analyst and assist with gathering requirements, when required.
