The City of Wanneroo is seeking motivated and reliable Conservation General Hands to support the maintenance and care of bushland, coastal and wetland conservation reserves across the City.
This is a hands-on role suited to people who enjoy physical work, teamwork and contributing to the protection of local natural areas.
About the Role
Reporting to the Supervisor Trees & Conservation, you will undertake a range of general maintenance duties across conservation reserves, helping to protect and enhance natural areas for the community.
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake manual conservation maintenance tasks including:
* Weed control (manual and chemical)
* Brush cutting and pruning
* Rubbish removal
* Fencing installation and repairs
* Revegetation and general site maintenance
• Operate and maintain tools, plant and equipment
• Liaise with colleagues and members of the public
• Complete required documentation such as timesheets and work orders
• Follow all City policies, procedures and WHS requirements
• Undertake duties as directed by the Supervisor or Leading Hand
About You
You are reliable, safety-focused and enjoy working outdoors as part of a team. You have an interest in conservation and natural area maintenance and are willing to adapt to changing priorities across different service units when required.
To be successful in this role you'll have:
Essential Requirements
• Experience and/or a strong commitment to working in natural area maintenance
• Knowledge of local plants and weeds
• Herbicide licence/qualifications or relevant experience
• Ability to undertake physical manual labour
• Proven communication skills and ability to work in a team
• Experience using basic information systems and technology
• Knowledge of the practical application of Occupational Health and Safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification in parks and reserves
• Current Driver's Licence
• Safety awareness card (White Card)
