Our client supplies steel plate and flat products through multiple Australian branches. Operations include plate processing and local delivery using a mix of company fleet and contractors. The near-term focus is standardising procedures, lifting safety and improving internal transport utilisation. This role influences DIFOT, stock accuracy and machine uptime through disciplined planning, QA and maintenance routines. Induction, shadowing and inter-branch training are available to support onboarding and knowledge transfer, providing clear parameters and established systems for consistent performance.
About the opportunity
This role leads day-to-day warehouse, processing and transport to ensure safe, efficient operations and delivery in full and on time. You will manage dispatch planning, align production with schedule, lead people and uphold WHS standards while controlling inventory and contractor value.
In this role, you will:
* Improve DIFOT and order accuracy across pick/pack and delivery
* Lift machine performance, uptime and lead times
* Optimise transport utilisation and cost across fleet and contractors
* Embed 5S, SWPs, PPE compliance and visible safety leadership
* Build cross-training and succession for critical roles
You will lead a team of 6-8, run toolbox talks, coordinate receiving and QA checks, and plan maintenance and housekeeping. The remit includes Friday dispatch planning for Monday loads, stock accuracy checks and alignment of capacity with the schedule. About you
You are qualified by experience, preferably from a trade background that progressed into leadership. You have led multi-function teams in steel plate/flat-product operations across warehouse, processing and transport. You understand plate processing methods, scheduling, inventory accuracy and transport planning, and you coach, delegate and hold to account in a high-risk environment using SWPs, PPE and housekeeping.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
* Leadership in steel operations with plate/flat-product exposure
* Knowledge of laser, plasma, oxy and saw processes
* Experience improving DIFOT, machine uptime and 5S standards
* Transport planning across company fleet and contractors
* Cross-training, SOPs and succession planning experience
* Current driver's licence; forklift/crane/truck licences desirable
