Overview
Shape a city-defining precinct in Australia’s capital
The City Renewal Authority is a statutory authority of the ACT Government responsible for delivering design-led, people-focused renewal across Canberra’s city centre and key urban precincts. Through strong partnerships with government, industry and community, the Authority is shaping a more vibrant, sustainable and economically resilient city.
The ACT Government is seeking to appoint an experienced Non-Executive Director to the City Renewal Authority Board, bringing commercial insight and contemporary governance expertise to support the delivery of significant urban renewal projects.
About the City Renewal Authority
Established under the City Renewal Authority and Suburban Land Agency Act 2017, the City Renewal Authority is at the forefront of one of Australia’s most significant capital city transformation programs, shaping the future of Canberra’s city centre across the designated City Renewal Precinct including Civic, Braddon, Dickson and the Acton Waterfront. Entrusted with stewardship of some of the nation’s most strategically important urban land, the Authority delivers city shaping precincts that influence how the capital evolves, setting benchmarks for design excellence, sustainability, public value and long term place making. Working in partnership with government, industry and the community, it enables high quality development and investment outcomes of both local significance and national interest. The Authority is governed by a skills-based Board that provides strategic direction and oversight, ensuring the organisation operates effectively, ethically and in the public interest with a clear focus on creating lasting legacy for Canberra.
The opportunity
As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the strategic oversight of major, long-term urban renewal initiatives that shape the character, functionality and liveability of Canberra’s city centre. About you

You will have experience in planning and delivering large scale development programs that unfold over multiple years and involve significant capital investment, complex stakeholder interfaces and long term public value outcomes. Your experience includes shaping precincts that attract residents, workers and visitors alike, and that balance commercial performance with design quality, sustainability and community benefit.
You will bring:
* Demonstrated experience in governing, planning or delivering major precinct developments and brownfield renewal programs, including complex projects and precincts
* Strong commercial and financial acumen, with a sophisticated understanding of development risk, long term investment and value creation in both public and market contexts
* Experience guiding complex development initiatives through planning, approval and delivery, working across government, industry and community stakeholders
* Previous experience as a Board member, director or senior executive, or demonstrated capability to operate effectively at Board level
* Strong governance skills and the ability to exercise independent, well-reasoned judgement
* Clear communication skills and a collaborative, collegiate approach
Experience across urban renewal, property development, infrastructure, planning, architecture, design, engineering, sustainability or public private partnerships will be highly regarded. Seeking national and international perspectives and welcomes applications from candidates outside the ACT.
