About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Field Engineer to join our Hunter Class line of business based at Osborne Naval Shipyard-SA, reporting to the Production Engineering Team Lead.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
You will be responsible for providing hands-on engineering support throughout the shipbuilding process, working closely with production and trade teams to offer technical guidance that resolves issues on the ground. Your role will be key to maintaining build quality, ensuring engineering compliance, and supporting efficient construction practices to deliver a product that aligns with the original design intent of the Hunter Class Frigate Program.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conduct technical investigations and assessments to resolve a wide range of engineering issues arising during ship construction.
* Monitor and report on production issues, providing regular updates to supervisors and relevant project authorities.
* Deliver engineering analysis and recommendations to the Technical Authority to ensure the as-built configuration aligns with the design intent.
* Translate system and equipment design intent into practical, manufacturable solutions, incorporating changes as needed to support production.
* Act as a key liaison between the Production Engineering Support team and broader project stakeholders, including management, operations, and subject matter experts where required.
About YOU
* Relevant trade certification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural) with production experience, or a tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in a related engineering or design discipline
* Strong ability to interpret CAD models, detailed design drawings, and technical documents, including fabrication and assembly drawings
* Demonstrated ability to apply engineering standards and first principles to resolve complex problems within your technical domain
* Experience in the design of steel and aluminium structures
* Familiarity with engineering tools, such as CAD and PLM software
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and stakeholder engagement
