Lead Botanist Position
AECOM is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Botanist to join our team in Perth, Western Australia. As a key member of our environmental practice, you will play a crucial role in helping industries, clients, and governments meet their environmental responsibilities while protecting the natural environment.
In this exciting opportunity, you will have the chance to work on impactful community-shaping projects with unique and diverse challenges. You will be responsible for coordinating and leading field-based ecology survey work, including baseline surveys, monitoring programs, and targeted flora and weed assessments across various bioregions.
The successful candidate will possess a degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or a related field, with 7-10+ years of professional experience in botanical surveys, ecological consulting, vegetation assessments, or related fieldwork. You will also have excellent field skills and experience conducting surveys in various environments, including mining, remote, and Perth Metro areas.
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and lead field-based ecology survey work, including baseline surveys, monitoring programs, and targeted flora and weed assessments across various bioregions.
* Lead and manage ecological projects, supporting internal clients with multi-disciplinary tenders and deliverables.
* Plan, deliver, and analyze ecology surveys independently or collaboratively, performing impact assessments and designing mitigation strategies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or a related field.
* 7-10+ years of professional experience in botanical surveys, ecological consulting, vegetation assessments, or related fieldwork.
* Excellent field skills and experience conducting surveys in various environments, including mining, remote, and Perth Metro areas.
* Strong technical reporting skills proficiency in GIS desktop and data collection packages (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps).

Tertiary Education
* Degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or similar.
Professional Experience
* 7-10+ years professional experience in botanical surveys, ecological consulting, vegetation assessments, or related fieldwork.
Technical Skills
* Strong technical reporting skills proficiency in GIS desktop and data collection packages (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps).
Personal Qualities
* WA driving license and ability to work outdoors on short and extended field programs.
* Working knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation (EPA technical guides, BC Act).
