About the opportunity Be a leader of a collaborative and skilled group of midwives who work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team within the Birthing Suite based at The Mercy Hospital for Women: a tertiary referral centre, with over 5000 births per year, home to one of only four neonatal intensive care units in Melbourne. This allows us to provide care for some of the highest risk pregnancies in the state. You will manage day to day operations of our 12 bed birthing suite, guiding the team to provide comprehensive midwifery care for women and support them in their birth choices. Whether this be an unmedicated, hypnobirth in the bath, or a high-risk induction of labour. We keep women and their families at the centre of everything we do. You will support and encourage our midwives to work to their full scope of practice. Be supported by the Midwifery Unit Manager to develop your leadership skills, including opportunity to cover in the Unit Manager role and encouragement to complete further education such as diploma or masters of leadership. To thrive in this role, you will have: Previous AMUM experience - or previous experience working in charge in a birthing suite Level 3 RANZCOG practitioner status Competent to perform IV cannulation, balloon catheter insertion for induction of labour, perineal suturing and waterbirth (or working towards these skills) Knowledge of managing high risk, complicated pregnancies and birth, but also possess the skills and desire to facilitate physiological birth where possible About you: Effective leadership skills emphasizing empathy as a guiding principle Resourceful and adaptable - you will excel in a team that upholds the Mercy values of compassion, hospitality, respect, innovation, stewardship and teamwork in everything we do Proficient in cultivating strong professional relationships to facilitate collaborative care and effectively contribute as a member of our multidisciplinary team Approachable and compassionate, you bring a flexible and positive attitude What you'll bring You're resilient, compassionate and have a whole lot of heart. You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining: A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
