About the Role
New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua Recent Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
Senior Project Metallurgist role overview: Lead delivery of key projects and de-bottlenecking studies in the processing plant while supporting and influencing operational performance at one of the world’s major refractory gold operations that uses pressure oxidation (POX) technology.
You will work directly with the capital projects team onsite to identify, scope, and execute projects for the short and long term to resolve process inefficiencies and drive major business improvements in throughput and gold recovery. You will also manage metallurgical data systems and collaborate closely with operations, engineering and procurement. A key part of this role includes coaching and developing team capability while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
The ideal candidate will lead by example—promoting visible safety leadership, driving disciplined execution, and working with the team to identify risks and deliver results in a dynamic and complex operational environment.
About you

- Extensive senior-level experience in mineral processing with deep knowledge of gold extraction technologies, particularly refractory gold and pressure oxidation.
- Hands-on experience in operations such as comminution, flotation, CIL/CIP, autoclaves, and metallurgical planning.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of training and motivating teams.
- Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, SAP, Pronto, or CMMS.
- A strong safety mindset and active participation in hazard management and investigations.
