Support Worker Role
The role provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families to help them stay strong, connected, and safe, particularly in situations involving family violence, sexual violence, relationship breakdown, child protection issues, employment difficulties, or discrimination.
This culturally grounded position works with clients to ensure their engagement with legal and social services is safe, respectful, and empowering. The role supports client access to these services by building strong relationships based on cultural understanding and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
* Buil'd effective relationships with First Nations clients to facilitate their engagement with legal and support services.
* Bridge communication gaps between First Nations clients and non-First Nations staff, ensuring a culturally safe environment for all parties involved.
* Provide high-quality, culturally sensitive support and case management to clients, including accompanying them through legal processes and supporting them at appointments and court events.
* Conduct holistic assessments of client needs and develop safety plans collaboratively with lawyers and social workers.
Qualifications and Experience:
To be successful in this role, you will have qualifications in community services, social work, Indigenous Trauma Recovery Practice, or similar fields. Alternatively, you may be working towards qualifications or possess demonstrated experience in service delivery with First Nations clients.
