Primary objective
Contribute to the reduction of recidivism rates by implementing and managing high quality focused support services,
practical welfare assistance and reintegration planning for prisoners within a Correctional environment, whilst providing
mentoring and supporting a team of Prisoner Support Officers and Pre-Release Case Managers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide mentoring and daily guidance to Prisoner Support Officers and Pre-Release Case Managers on welfare supports

to prisoners, workload priorities and high-quality reintegration planning and associated activities.
2. Support the Manager, to identify and address training needs of the staff and develop training materials and resources

for staff to increase their professional knowledge and apply best practice case management with offenders.
3. Develop and maintain appropriate productive collaborative relationships with government agencies and non-

government organisations to ensure a comprehensive range of service delivery, information and through care initiatives
are undertaken to provide prisoners the opportunity to gain pre-release information and supports.

4. Ensure statistical data collection is effective, and accurate and data bases are maintained appropriately and analysis of
data.

5. Actively lead and participate in the case management of prisoners with complex needs and /or longer sentence length
(including life sentenced prisoners) consistent with the Offender Rehabilitation and Engagement Framework.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to mentor a team, provide ongoing professional development, establish priorities and manage competing

deadlines.
2. Substantial knowledge of contemporary correctional practices relating to reintegration, throughcare initiatives, and the

delivery of culturally appropriate support and welfare assistance to prisoners.
3. A demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of case management practices including assessment, identification

of risk and protective factors, the collaborative development of individual plans and motivational interviewing, with a
particular focus on domestic and family violence risk assessments and safety planning.

4. Proven ability to manage challenging situations and resolve conflict whilst maintaining positive working relationships
with internal and external stakeholders.

5. Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills including demonstrated experience in writing reports
and briefs as well as leading case conferences and meetings with clients and service providers.

6. Proven ability to work and communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people as well as people from other
cultural backgrounds.

7. Proven ability to maintain statistical data and analysis data for trends to pivot responses and services where required.
8. A sound knowledge of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office suite of

applications, spreadsheets and data bases.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Behavioural and/or Social Science disciplines.
2. Knowledge and understanding of custodial operations in the Northern Territory.
3. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain.
Further information
The Department of the Attorney-General and Justice (NT Correctional Services) has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not
permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site. Shortlisted
applicants will be required to complete a Departmental pre- employment questionnaire and the successful applicant/s will
