The Position
The WHS Advisor provides specialist technical advice and operational support to ensure Council's diverse operations comply with the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, Codes of Practice, and relevant Australian Standards. The role supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Council's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) to maintain Council's self‐insurance licence and ensure ongoing legislative and regulatory compliance. This includes reviewing third‐party WHS and CoR systems, supporting audit and assurance activities, and delivering effective WHS training and communication initiatives.
The WHS Advisor plays a critical advisory role in fostering a strong safety culture across Council by supporting managers, supervisors, and employees to implement safe systems of work and embed best practice WHS behaviours.
Essential
* Tertiary qualifications in Safety Management, Health Science or related discipline
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a WHS advisory role
* Accredited Lead Auditor – Work Health and Safety
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE)
* Strong knowledge of NSW WHS legislative framework, including CoR, Workers Compensation, Codes of Practice, and Australian Standards
* Experience liaising with SafeWork NSW
* Demonstrated experience in hazard identification, causation analysis, and implementing risk control strategies
* Experience working within a self‐insurance environment
* Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
Salary & Employment Conditions
* Permanent position, 35 hours per week
* This position is a Grade 7, salary range is $104,720 p.a. with progression to $115,592 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $122,668 p.a, plus 12% Super
