The Payroll Manager role is based ideally in Sydney (but open to Melbourne) and will lead the payroll function for over 1000 employees across multiple entities and states.
About the Role This is a strategic and operational leadership role, responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll function for Australia.
You'll manage a team of payroll professionals and outsourced providers, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll delivery on a fortnightly basis.
The role also includes broader employment tax compliance, stakeholder engagement, and integration of payroll operations for newly acquired businesses.
Key responsibilities include: Leading payroll operations and compliance across multiple entities and states, including superannuation, salary packaging, and STP reporting.
Managing relationships with outsourced payroll providers and ensuring service excellence.
Driving payroll governance, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
Leading payroll integration for acquisitions, ensuring smooth transitions and compliance.
Coordinating employment tax activities including FBT, payroll tax, and workers compensation.
Providing strategic insights through payroll reporting and analytics to support decision-making.
Collaborating with global payroll teams to align best practices and contribute to group strategy.

The ideal candidate will have: Proven experience managing Australian payroll operations for 1000+ employees.
Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards, and ATO compliance.
Experience integrating payroll operations from acquired businesses or onboarding large volumes of new starters.
Demonstrated leadership capability and experience managing a team.
Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
A commitment to continuous improvement and staying ahead of industry trends.
Payroll certification or relevant qualifications.
This is a permanent role paying $150,000 – $180,000 + Super, starting ASAP.
The role is remote at the moment until they open an office in Sydney or Melbourne.
