Primary Objectives:
To support the functions of the Legislative Assembly, its Members and the department, including drafting of procedural
scripts; liaising with stakeholders; producing the Daily Hansard, the Parliamentary Record and transcripts of parliamentary
committees; and ensuring accurate record keeping and file retention of parliamentary documentation.
Context Statement:
The Department of the Legislative Assembly provides the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, its Members and
Committees with quality and timely support for the operation of the Parliament, Parliamentary Committees, the Parliament
House precinct, and Electorate Offices (and staff).
The Administration and Editing Officer will provide support to the Hansard Unit and the Procedural Support Unit which are
both part of Parliamentary Support Division. The Hansard Unit is responsible for transcribing and broadcasting sittings of
the Legislative Assembly and parliamentary committee hearings and producing the Parliamentary Record.
The Procedural Support Unit is responsible for the drafting of procedural scripts, preparing draft Minutes of Proceedings of
Meetings of the Assembly, processing Tabled Papers, and for ensuring accurate record keeping of parliamentary
documentation. The unit assists with the Assent process for legislation and works closely with the staff of Government
House, Cabinet Office and the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel. During Meetings of the Assembly, staff support the
Chamber, sit as Clerks at the Table, and assist Members and staff with parliamentary procedure and practice.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide administrative support to the Hansard Unit and Procedural Support Unit, including updating documents and
templates; records audit; archiving and records management; research; and website administration.
2. Assist in editing the Daily Hansard to Parliamentary Record standard; editing Parliamentary Committees' transcripts,
using competent research skills; and extracting footage for delivery to Members of the Legislative Assembly.
3. Assist to manage Assembly Meeting arrangements, including providing procedural scripts, preparations for the
Chamber and independently staffing the Table Office; and appropriately attending to inquiries from Members of the
Legislative Assembly, Government and department staff, and stakeholders.
1. Liaise with the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel and the Office of the Administrator by phone, email and in person
to facilitate the Assent process for Proposed Laws and liaise with Cabinet Office to facilitate the tabling of documents.
1. Ensure accurate and effective records management and compilation of statistics for the unit and relating to Members,
Assembly Meetings and business of the Legislative Assembly; and maintain parliamentary content on the Department's
Internet and Intranet sites and associated databases.
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
1. Demonstrated high level of English language skills, particularly spelling, punctuation, syntax and grammar, and related
research abilities.
1. Highly effective organisational skills, and the ability to work unsupervised with attention to detail to undertake tasks in
a fast-paced environment.
3. Administrative support and records management experience, and the ability to prioritise tasks appropriately.
4. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to liaise appropriately with Members of
the Legislative Assembly, stakeholders and the public, and work effectively in a team.
5. Demonstrated ability to respect and adhere to the requirements of confidentiality, impartiality and integrity.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs or similar and Adobe PDF, and a high level of
competence with Microsoft Word.
Requirements for Selection and Undertaking the Role:
* Prior to being formally offered a position with the Department of the Legislative Assembly, applicants will be required
to submit a pre-employment declaration which includes information regarding their criminal history, conflict of interest
and other continuing employment or volunteer work.
* The successful applicant will be subject to a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from
this position unless it is a relevant criminal history.
* Access to recreation leave will be restricted during Assembly sitting periods.
* The position is based at Parliament House; however, may require travel throughout the Northern Territory at times.
* The position requires the incumbent to undertake remunerated overtime hours during peak times such as Assembly
sittings
* The right to disconnect – This position is not expected to be available for regular work-related contact outside of normal
work hours.
