**The opportunity**
We have an exciting opportunity for you to lead our brand-new Venues and Events Branch.
Your initial priorities will be to set the direction for the branch, build a cohesive team, and determine branch goals and objectives to deliver a high-level service. You will provide expert advice on best practice leisure centres, venue services and events to Council and the organisation, to enhance performing arts, community and recreational activities, and community events.
This high-profile leadership role will see you overseeing and leading a broad and diverse portfolio, which includes our venues (Logan Entertainment Centre, Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct and Beenleigh Events Centre), our pools and gyms, community centres and the delivery of community events in a safe, sustainable and engaging manner. You will define role responsibilities and provide clear strategic direction to the branch. It's fundamental you have the skills and experience to foster strong stakeholder relationships, using your effective communication skills and leveraging your network to negotiate and influence preferred outcomes.
As the Venues and Events Branch works in an ever-evolving internal and external environment, it's essential that you have your finger on the pulse and are able to respond accordingly. You will be reporting to the Community and Lifestyle Director.
Elements of the role include:
- providing strategic direction and effective leadership to the branch
- leading best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level
- identifying and mitigating potential risks
- identifying, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships
- planning and overseeing the implementation of branch program objectives and initiatives
- ensuring compliance and keeping up to date with relevant legislative and Council requirements
- managing the branch budget, maximising the commercial viability of public venues and success in attracting shows and events.
Minimum requirements of the role include:
- tertiary qualification in a relevant field of expertise such as venue management, event management, leisure facility management or similar (highly desirable)
- extensive contemporary commercial experience in performing arts, leisure centres, venue services and events management in government and/or the private sector
- significant experience managing complex budgets
- proven experience leading and developing teams, driving positive work culture
- exceptional communication skills with proven ability to negotiate and influence
- previous experience planning and delivering major projects
- experience in a complex multi-channel customer-centric environment
- current 'C' class drivers' licence
- current Blue Card for working with children or ability to obtain
- ability to receive a satisfactory result for a National Police History Check.
